Canon has announced a new free firmware update for the EOS C400 and EOS C80 digital cinema cameras. You can download the C400 firmware here, and the C80 firmware here.
Canon is introducing a new Cinema Exposure Mode, which is designed to improve highlight performance when shooting above base ISO levels (up to 2-stops), as well as providing a more streamlined camera menu specifically for LOG shooting. This is said to provide users with greater flexibility in challenging shooting conditions while helping maximise image quality throughout post-production workflows.
The EOS C400 also gets a range of workflow and usability enhancements, including Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation. This was designed for smoother operation in broadcast and live production environments when using supported Cine Servo lenses.
The update adds enhanced compatibility with the new CN30x40 Cine Servo lens.
Canon EOS C400 Firmware Version 1.0.7.1 incorporates the following fixes and enhancements:
- Adds a new [Capture Mode], enabling selection of the new [Cinema Exposure] feature in addition to the existing [Custom Picture].
Enables adjustment of the dynamic range balance (allocation between highlight and shadow ranges) based on ISO sensitivity in [Cinema Exposure]. - Adds compatibility with the “CINE-SERVO” cinema lenses “CN30×40 IAS J/R1” (RF mount) and “CN30×40 IAS J/P1” (PL mount).
- Adds [Auto Exp. Ramping Comp.] (Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation) to [Camera Settings]. Applying in-camera gain compensation according to the zoom position, maintaining image brightness.
