First Rush– a macOS multi-camera SDI recorder

Screenshot 2026 06 04 at 10 10 32

First Rush is a macOS multi-camera SDI recorder. It auto-records from the camera’s SDI REC flag (start/stop follows the camera), handles Scene/Cut/Take naming automatically, monitors up to 16 cameras on one screen, and has an iPhone/iPad companion viewer.

It’s built on the Blackmagic DeckLink and AJA SDKs and records ProRes. The tools that really nail auto-record (QTAKE, Pomfort Reeltime) are great but priced out of reach for freelancers. First Rush is built to be affordable for individual on-set editors, and a handful are already using it on real shoots.

Key features

  • Auto-record from the SDI REC flag — start/stop follows the camera, so you never miss a take when you step away
  • Scene / Cut / Take entry with automatic file naming
  • Up to 16 cameras monitored on one screen
  • NC metadata + OCR fallback for slate/camera info
  • iPhone / iPad companion viewer for on-set monitoring

It was built by Jinkyu Han, a working on-set editor in the Korean film/TV industry. After years of fighting with Media Express and MovieRecorder on set, he decided to build his own macOS multi-camera SDI recorder.
