Voigtlander has unveiled its new SEPTON 40mm F2 Aspherical. This is being touted as a high-performance standard lens for Sony E and Nikon Z-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.

It features an optical system optimized for the image sensors of mirrorless cameras using the Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. The 7-element optical design, including one orthometric-type element, allows for a reasonably fast F2 aperture. It features a compact length of 32mm from the mount flange.

The lens mount is equipped with electronic contacts, enabling electrical communication between the lens and the body. When used with a body that supports electrical communication and the latest firmware, it supports three types of focus support functions (focusing by changing the focus point frame color, focusing by peaking, and focusing by the magnification button), in addition to Exif information and in-body image stabilization (3-axis).

A high-precision, all-metal helicoid unit produces moderate torque enable smooth focusing. This allows for subtle focus adjustments. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 30cm / 11.8″.
A dome-shaped metal screw-in hood is included, and the outer circumference of the hood has a 52mm thread, allowing the front cap to be used with or without the hood.
