OWC (Other World Computing) has announced its new 8TB Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 SSD, which, at least to my knowledge, is the World’s first Thunderbolt 5 Bus-Powered 8TB Drive.

The 8TB Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 Portable SSD is equipped with a Thunderbolt 5 interface that delivers data transfer speeds of over 6,000 MB/s, while remaining backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, and USB4. Compatible with Windows, Mac, Chrome, iPad Pro, and Surface devices, this SSD connects to your host system using an integrated Thunderbolt 5 cable and features a capacity of 8TB. It is also water, dust, and crushproof.
The encapsulated cable enables Envoy Ultra to be waterproof (Waterproof for up to 30 minutes at < 1 meter. Connector/plug end of the built-in Thunderbolt cable is not waterproof and must be dry/clean before connecting Envoy Ultra to a machine or device) and it allows for specific tuning of the flash storage. In the unlikely event that the integrated cable must be replaced, it is a user-serviceable item.
