The Osmo Action 5 also had a slightly larger sensor (40MP 1/1.3″). a new 4K Custom mode that records the full square sensor then lets users make custom crops after.

This DR works for all video specifications, including the maximum resolution of 4K120p video. The Osmo Action 6 can also capture 38MP photos. The Action 6’s powerful 4nm chip enables frame-by-frame analysis and 4x frame interpolation for up to 32x slow motion. The action camera also comes with 10-bit and D-Log M color support. The max. Bitrate is 100 Mbps, and recordings are done in MP4 (HEVC).

You can record directly to the onboard 50GB storage (up from 47GB on the Osmo Action 5) or use an SD card.

There are dual OLED touchscreens, and the rear screen has a claimed brightness of 1000 cd/m². Both screens also feature a specialized AF coating that ensures the screens remain responsive even if they get wet.
There is the existing HorizonSteady and RockSteady stabilization from previous models, as well as a new subject tracking mode that is said to detect people in front of the camera and adjust the composition to keep them centered.
This smart stabilization feature helps to eliminate camera shake in all directions and even horizontally corrects tilt at any angle. The HorizonSteady stabilization mode is now available when recording in 4K, instead of capping out at 2.7K. That means footage can remain horizontally level, even through heavy bumps and 360° rotations. In addition, you can activate HorizonBalancing, which corrects the tilt horizontally within ±45° and supports recording stable up to 4K120 videos.
RockSteady 3.0 effectively reduces shakes while retaining the dynamic impact of motion, delivering a more immersive first-person perspective and supporting video recording up to 4K120.
With the Osmo Action 6, you have the ability to capture vertical video for uploading to social media sites. The camera’s chassis and the included frame provide a magnetic quick release to switch from horizontal to vertical format. The horizontal-vertical protective frame lets you natively shoot vertical video for social media platforms.
Tempered glass ensures durability, and the AF coating keeps touch controls responsive, even when wet. With Always On Display enabled, both screens show recording duration and specifications for lower power consumption. Get essential information at a glance without being disturbed by bright lights at night.
DJI brings subject tracking to an action camera. Action 6 now intelligently detects the subject’s position and dynamically adjusts the composition.

The Osmo Action 6 can operate underwater without a case down to 65.6′ (up from 59′ on the Osmo Action 5) and, with the optional Dive Case, it can operate down to 197′. A built-in water pressure gauge displays water depth and altitude, and it automatically starts/stops recording when entering/exiting water. It activates underwater at a depth of 3.3′ and is only effective when the camera is submerged without a waterproof case.
Continuously record for up to four hours with the enhanced 1950mAh high-capacity Battery Plus, capable of operating in cold temperatures as low as -4°F. Fast charging technology allows you to power up the battery for a 2-hour charge in just 15 minutes.
You can live stream directly from your Osmo Action 6 using the built-in dual-band Wi-Fi or your phone’s hotspot.

Three built-in omnidirectional microphones record sound. You can also connect the separately available DJI Mic 2 for a portable, easy-to-mount audio solution with 32-bit float recording. The camera can connect to other external microphones using an optional USB-C to 3.5mm cable.
