Maxima has introduced a new MicroFocus Lens for its Furiosa fixture which merges a specialized micro-glass component with Fresnel-style sharpness to produce a unique, diffused touch.
The new MicroFocus lens combines advanced optical engineering with precision machining to create sharp, defined shadows like a Fresnel, but with a softer fall-off. This new technology achieves a gentle diffusion on the subject, creating a flattering, soft light quality that preserves detail without overpowering it.
This dual effect results from the lens’s carefully designed refraction properties, which control and shape the light path more effectively than a standard bare LED.
The whole premise of the MicroFocus Lens is that you no longer have to choose between hard and soft lighting and it allows you to use an LED fixture without any accessory attached, and you don’t need to carry around a large and heavy Fresnel.
This design was born out of an R&D process that incorporates insights and direct feedback from DOPs and photographers.
How does it work?
The MicroFocus lens mounts directly onto Maxima Furiosa’s collimator with just four screws, allowing for easy attachment and removal. This design means you can quickly add or remove the lens to adapt to any lighting need. Even with the MicroFocus lens in place, compatibility with Profoto and Bowens accessories doesn’t change, and in fact, the lens actually enhances their performance.
If you are not familiar with the Furiosa, is a portable, high-power, Bi-colour LED fixture on the market. It is a self-contained unit with no external ballast and it weighs just 6.7kg / 14.77 lb.
Furiosa is not only the Maxima’s first Bi-Color fixture but is consistent with their philosophy of efficiency maximization and sustainability. It has a power consumption of just 800W and a claimed output of 80,000 lumens. Maxima states that Furiosa sets a new standard in efficiency for film production, allowing for extended battery operation, reduced consumption in the studio and a much smaller carbon footprint, exceeding any standard for the environmentally responsible set.
