Filmmaker Mark Toia Dies

Mark Toia

Today, we got some very sad news that Mark Toia has passed. Mark was an incredibly talented maverick filmmaker. He had a great eye and knew how to use camera gear to its fullest. The industry has lost a great talent way too soon. I don’t know the specifics, only that he had a brief illness prior to his passing.

Mark had a style that I loved. He did tight-face shots so well. It didn’t hurt that the subjects just worked so well, and they were diverse. He shot all over the world, creating stunning images for some of the biggest brands in the world.

Notable credits include Monsters of Man, UFO Man, The Last Yowie, and Black Sheep in Southie.

Matt and I back in 2020 during the pandemic, had the privilege to interview Mark on our YouTube channel. It was a highlight for both of us. Below is the full interview on his work on Monsters Of Man, which he co-wrote, directed, and did a lot of CG on the film. Mark had a talent for getting it done with the highest possible quality, no matter the budget.

Mark was known for his campaigns for various brands and agencies. His work with helicopter videography is some of the best I’ve seen. He loved to move the camera. High-speed car rigs with jib arms were also a big part of Marks’s filmmaking talent. His shots always made me go… wow!

Huge RED Camera Fan

Mark was a huge RED Camera user. He loved the system and loved to share his knowledge using them.

We here at Newsshooter.com want to give our deepest sympathies to Mark’s family and friends. It’s never easy to get such news. He will be missed.
