Both fixtures are available in either 5600K or 3200K versions.

Maxima 3

The Maxima 3 is being touted as the ultimate all-in-one fixture. It draws 300W, weighs 3.9kg (8.59 lb) without the Fresnel lens, and 5.1 kg (11.24 lb) with the Fresnel lens. It has no external power supply or control unit, all you do is plug it in and it is ready to go.

The Maxima 3 8″ utilizes a borosilicate Fresnel lens with a pump-action focusing system. the beam angle is adjustable from 15° to 60°. You can remove the Fresnel lens if you want to use the light open face. The fixture utilizes an S-mount so there are a wide array of existing light modifiers you could use with it.

The light has a single-piece carbon-reinforced body and it is matte black so you won’t get any unwanted reflections. Every Maxima component is designed, engineered, and assembled in Italy. Maxima also offers a 3-years warranty that covers both the electronics and the body.

The Maxima 3 also users a patent-pending heatsink that is claimed to provides a 40% more efficient luminous performance compared to aluminum heatsinks that are used by standard LED lamps.

The fixture features analog controls for the essential functions and other more advanced features are accessible via the iOS or Android app.

The Maxima 3 and Maxima 7 are powered by an ARM Cortex-M7 processor running at up to 216 MHz.

The Maxima 3 can operate in three modes:

SILENT MODE

In silent mode, Maxima 3 operates in the 10-180 W range and emits only 19dBa of noise. This is the best mode when silent operation is of paramount importance.

REGULAR MODE

In regular mode, the Maxima 3 operates in the 20-250 W range and emits only 26dBa of noise. This is the most balanced ratio between luminous output and noise.

BOOST MODE

In boost mode, the Maxima 3 operates at its full power between 220-350W for those scenarios where audio is not being recorded or Maxima is placed far from the scene.

Claimed Output

Screen Shot 2021 04 13 at 11 18 54

Maxima claims the fixture has an output of 157,000lx at 1m when using the 15° Fresnel attachment. At a distance of 3m that figure is claimed to be 19,700lx.

The Maxima 3 is now available for 2.499,00€ with the Fresnel lens. You can also buy it without the Fresnel lens for 1.899,00€. Both versions come with:

  • Maxima 3
  • Maxima 3 Extension-Tube
  • Maxima 3 yoke stand
  • Maxima 3 heavy-duty flight case
  • 5 meters Neoprene power cable

Maxima 7

The Maxima 7 was specifically designed to simulate sunlight in high-speed cinematography and professional photography environments. The fixture was developed by a purpose-built team of engineers, software developers and lighting professionals from the Cinestudio movie production company.

The fixture is a hard, single point lighting source for producing clean shadows without the issues deriving from multi-point light sources.

The light features a 10″ borosilicate Fresnel lens combined with the pump-action focusing system. Just like the Maxima 3 the beam angle is adjustable from 15° to 60°.

You can remove the Fresnel lens if you want to use the light open face. The fixture utilizes an S-mount so there are a wide array of existing light modifiers you could use with it.

The Maxima 7 tips the scales at 8.7 kg (19.18 lb)without the Fresnel, and 9.9kg (21.8lbs) with. The light is designed and manufactured in Italy. There are two different versions you can choose from when it comes to the construction of the body, Metal or Carbon-Kevlar.

The Maxima 7 is a 5600K or 3200K (depending on which version you choose) LED light that draws 700W of power. The company claims that at 5600K the light is capable of producing 470,000lx at a distance of 1m with the Fresnel reflector set at 15°. At 3m that figure is claimed to be 58,000lx. At 120° at a distance of 1m without the Fresnel, the output is claimed to be 45,000lx.

Above you can see an actual head-to-head comparison between the Maxima 7 and 1200W HMI PAR.

These figures are certainly impressive and while it will do a good job at replicating a PAR 1200W HMI fixture, you aren’t quite going to get the same amount of output. Regardless, it is still nice to see a LED light that draws significantly less power that is capable of almost matching a 11200W HMI PAR.

Above you can see the companies claimed photometric scores.

It can be remotely controlled and is claimed to offer true flicker- free operation that make it a functional replacement of HMI fixtures. Maxima 7 is controlled by a powerful Cortex M7 CPU that continuously regulates light frequency, fan rate, and temperature while enabling connectivity via mobile App.

Above you can see a video showcasing some of the features of the light.

Maxima claims that 100% flicker-free operation is ensured across the whole dimming range up to 10,000 fps.

The nice aspect of having a hard light like the maxima 7 is that you can turn it into a soft light. Conversely, you can’t turn a soft lighting source into a hard lighting source.

The Maxima 7 S-Type universal mount that you can access just by sliding the reflector away. This allows users to convert the fixture from a hard, single point light into a soft-light which can be used with a vast array of softboxes, small reflectors and open-face intensifiers.
