Internal and external SSDs often start to overheat when you are transferring large amounts of data, and that heat build-up can have a flow-on effect of throttling transfer speeds. According to GigaDrive, their drives have been built with anti-overheat protection and their DRAM cache chip pre-processes transfers so files can copy simultaneously and efficiently.
The aluminum shell design provides steady heat dissipation. Speaking of the exterior shell, the drives feature an IP67 rating and have been tested in extreme conditions such as water, dust, and even drops from 10 feet.
These new drives not only look like good solutions for backing up footage and editing in the field, but you can also use them with compatible cameras such as the Blackmagic URSA and BMPCC models as large capacity, direct recording options.
The drives tip the scales at just 74g( 2.6oz) and have physical dimensions of (114 x 37 x 12.5 mm / 4.5″ x 1.5″ x 0.5″).
