This is not a new service, as it is actually stated in the user manual of RF lenses that this can be done, but somehow it seems to have slipped beneath the radar.

One of the key features of RF lenses is the ability to customize the Control Ring. This allows you to manually control functions such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

The only trouble when assigning aperture to the Control Ring is that you cannot smoothly adjust exposure. The Control Ring has predetermined steps that ‘click’ into place as you rotate the ring.

If you are shooting video you cannot make seamless smooth adjustments when changing the aperture. The Control Ring also produces an audible clicking noise which is hardly ideal when shooting video and recording audio.

Canon has a solution

To remove the clicking noise and allow for seamless aperture transitions Canon is offering a de-clicking service as a chargeable service.
