DJI Ronin-S Firmware Update 1.8.0.70 adds Sony Focus Control

Ronin S Sony IR

Last week, Paul Pan from DJI posted a teaser of the DJI Ronin-S controlling the focus of a Sony A7 III via the USB-C control cable.

In the Ronin-S Facebook group, Paul Pan mentions that they have tested the feature on most GM lenses as well as adapted lenses using a Metabones adaptor. Being able to control the focus manually via the camera is a nice feature as it means you don’t have to mount an additional lens motor. An important thing to note is that Steady Shot must be disabled and compared to using a dedicated lens motor, it won’t be as precise and accurate.

Added video recording, autofocus, and focus pull support for Sony A7M3 and A7R3 cameras with supported E-mount lenses using the MCC-C cable. Photo capture is not currently supported. To use autofocus on the Sony A7M3 and A7R3 cameras, press down halfway on the gimbal’s camera control button.
