KODAK Cinema Tools App – Film and Depth of Field Calculators

kodak

If you are shooting on film, or have an upcoming film project, KODAK has rebuilt their free Cinema Tools app with a new, easy to use interface with two handy calculators.

Film Calculator

The Film Calculator quickly calculates the amount of runtime left depending on the type and amount of film stock.

To calculate your total run time, select your film type (Super 8, 16, 35 or 65mm), enter your film length in feet or meters and the app will give your total run time. Simple.

Depth of Field Calculator

The second calculator built into the app is a Depth of Field Calculator. The calculator gives you the near limit, far limit, hyperfocal distance and circle of confusion based on the film type, focal length, subject distance and F-stop.

Just like the Film Calculator, simply enter the values to get calculate the distances.

While the app is made to essentially promote their products with a KODAK Lab locator, the two calculators are worthwhile to have if you shoot film often.

Need more?

There are other film calculator apps available like pCam Film+Digital which offers other calculators and cinema tools but costs USD $29.99. Another app that many people use is the Sun Seeker app to measure approximate times and positioning of the sun on any given day at their location.

What are your favourite cinematography apps that you use?
