Insta360 has launched a waterproof housing accessory for its 4K 360-degree action camera, the Insta360 ONE. The easy-to-use housing is backed with an IP68 rating, meaning that it’s protected against dust, splashing, and submersion in water.
The housing is designed to protect the ONE underwater but not for underwater 360 capture as the refraction that light undergoes can result in stitching lines between the two images from each lens. With the FreeCapture function in the app, users can still use the footage underwater as a standard video which will act like any other action camera.
Still, with 360 & VR content on the rise, it’s still exciting to be able to capture 360 content in situations where the camera may get wet or knocked around such as the situations shown in the promo video.
A new version of the Insta360 ONE app, which will be released by Nov. 17, is needed when using the waterproof housing.
Users should update the ONE app before using the waterproof housing.
