Canon announce new firmware for C300 mkII and C300 – adds Cine servo zoom AF to C300 and audio in 2K crop for mkII

Canon 4

Canon have today announced new firmware that brings several updates to the C300 and C300 mkII. Perhaps the biggest news for mkII owners is that you can now record audio in the 2K centre crop mode – a serious omission until now that hampered the mode’s usefulness for news and documentary work and also prevented the use of Super16 lenses for a lot of filming purposes.

Also added is AF support for the latest crop of cine servo lenses when using the original C300 DAF version. You can now get Dual Pixel CMOS AF to work with the CINE-SERVO 17-120mm EF-Mount and COMPACT SERVO 18-80mm lenses. You also get grip and control of the zoom and auto iris functions with all C300 models.

Perhaps more useful to the average user is the addition of peripheral illumination correction for the new 24-105mm f4L II lens. This updated version of the goto stills zoom is introduced for both C300 mkII and C300.

Also added to the C300 mkII is support for the Canon EVF-V70 OLED EVF that was introduced with the C700. This high end finder can now be used with all the same display functions that you get with the camera’s internal EVF.
