Photokina 2016: Big output, cool running Rayzr 7 LED Fresnel makes it debut

One of the hottest (well actually coolest) new light ranges to make its debut at the Photokina show were the Rayzr 7 LED 7-inch fresnels. These are cool running single LED equivalents of the familiar HMI and Halogen lights. They can be easily dimmed and also accept a range of light modifiers.

Like other LED fresnels these are cooler running and much less power hungry than traditional fixtures.

There are several similar LED lights on the market but Rayzr claim theirs is the brightest in its class. They also claim the most powerful Rayzr 7 is approximately 50% brighter than similar traditional 1K (1000W) tungsten light. At the show they were keen to point out that the light output of the Rayzr 7 rivals that from much larger conventional fixtures from ARRI and others.

The Rayzr 7 range has high TLCI ratings with an average of 98 according to the manufacturer. We weren’t able to test this at the show sadly. Flicker free performance up to 15000 fps should make the lights a good choice for shooting slow motion too.

Another nice feature of the Rayzr 7 range is that you can power them from suitable broadcast batteries. There is also DMX control built-in and an optional wireless control unit.
