Zacuto has introduced an update to their VCT plate, the VCT Pro. The first big improvement from the previous version is that they’ve cut about 1/3 of the weight. Amazingly, the gel pad is actually half the weight of the entire baseplate, which says something about how much lighter this version is.
One problem that sometimes occurs with baseplates is the inability to get accessories very close to the body of the camera — something Zacuto has worked to improve upon. They have also positioned the rosette in a way that should allow for accessories to be mounted close to the rear of the lens as long as you’re using the dog bone with whatever handgrip you’re using.
The VCT Pro is going to cost around $650, and be available October 1st. The trigger grip is going to be available in November.
