NAB 2016: Kino Flo Diva-Lite LED

Kino Flo’s Diva-Lite fixtures are incredibly popular for use on location, striking a good balance between bulk and power and putting out a lovely soft light. Until now they’ve been fluorescent-only, and while it’s nice to be able to replace blown tubes easily, it can also be kind of a pain to deal with fragile bulbs if all you want to do is change the colour temperature of your light.

Enter the Diva-Lite LED – still putting out a soft, flattering light, but now the unit contains LEDs it’s possible to use battery power as well as mains; and adjust both colour temperature and green/magenta shift.

We tested the lights photo-metrics at the show using the Sekonic C-700 and you can see the results below.

The results from the Diva-Lite LED were pretty impressive with the fixture scoring a CRI (R1-R8) of 96.8 at 3200k and 96.1 at 5600k. As far as output goes the light measured 3060lx at a distance of 1 meter at 5600k and 2980lx when set at 3200k. The quality of the light looked really nice, but I was a little surprised that it only outputted around 3000lx at 1 meter which is not a lot given the size of the fixture.

No word on price yet but the units are expected to be available in August.
