NAB 2016: Atomos to add HDR as firmware update to existing products

Matt Allard talks to Jeromy Young from Atomos about the firmware updates that see HDR added to products including the Shogun, Assassin and Ninja. Although these products don’t offer the 1,500nit rate normally required for a full HDR display, the monitors will display the log signal to represent the dynamic range, and though will not look as good as on a high nit-rated display, they are still able to offer a representation. The firmware also adds the PQ standard for brightness that is needed for HDR TVs.

The firmware is available from next month.
