NAB 2016: The DJI Matrice 600 – the company’s first true big camera drone

The DJI Matrice 600 is capable of carrying a pay load of 6kg, which means it can carry the Red Weapon with a gimbal. It carries six DJI intelligent batteries and can fly for up to 35mins with the X5 and X5R cameras. When paired with the Ronin-MX three-axis gimbal, the two actually communicate, providing with G-force, acceleration and positioning information to better compensate and stabilise the camera and maintain the horizon. The flight controller is the new A3 generation and comes in both the standard and pro configurations. The standard version features a single Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), while the upgraded pro features three of each, allowing improved accuracy through a redundant error checking system.

The Matrice 600 uses the Lightbridge 2 video downlink system, capable of a live HD stream at 1080p 60fps. It also includes some of the intelligent flight modes from the Inspire, such as POI, Waypoint, Follow Me, allowing simple automated operation, even for tricky events like car chases.
