BVE 2016: LCA show Litegear’s giant 8’x8’ bi-colour LED light and candle effects solutions

At the BVE show in London we interviewed UK lighting company LCA about the latest products from Litegear. They had a giant 8’x8′ LED light on show made up of four separate panels connected together. This was something I’ve never seen before and essentially creates a huge light source that can be used both for film and TV production. Unlike regular large light sources these are flat and don’t require big distances behind them. A conventional light source behind a diffusion screen requires much more space and is nowhere near as flexible in its placement. The Litegear panels can be hung from ceilings, mounted on stands, or even just stuck to walls. I was joined in the video by DP Geoff Boyle who runs Cinematography.net. He had a keen interest in the new lights and told me how he has ‘spent forever trying to get big light sources,’ and was interested in trying the new products out. There is no pricing on this rather amazing light yet, but don’t expect it to be cheap.

Also on show were smaller Litemats and also a novel solution for creating candle or strobe effects on set that runs on small camera batteries.
