Post house Light Iron have posted a short video shot on the new RED Weapon 8K camera. The profile of personal trainer Erin Gales is embedded above (although the highest resolution the Vimeo player will allow you to view is 1080p).
Under the video there’s also a link to a blog post by Light Iron’s President and CEO Michael Cioni who shot the piece on why he thinks it will be worth shooting in 8K. Cioni assumes that 4K will be the mainstream consumer standard in a couple of years’ time, and that shooting in 8K to finish in 4K will help footage look smoother and more organic. “Don’t just use resolution as a pixel meter for bragging rights,” he writes, “rather use it as a Swiss Army knife multi-tool that can be leveraged in a number of creatively constructive ways.”
Interesting stuff, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for more footage shot on RED’s new super-resolution camera as it emerges.
