IBC 2015: Zacuto ARRI Alexa MINI rig with new sliding VCT baseplate

By technical editor Matt Allard:

At IBC, Zacuto were showing a prototype shoulder rig for the ARRI Alexa MINI. It is designed to very modular and can be broken down into various pieces depending on the shooting situation.

The rig consists of a top plate, bottom plate, two side plates, a top handle, wooden handle and rosette, Gratical EVF and a new universal baseplate that features a sliding dovetail. There are a lot of mounting points on the rig and you can attach battery plates to the side, or the top plate depending on your needs. All the parts can be purchased separately if you don’t want to go for the whole setup.

When designing the setup Zacuto were keen to keep the height of the rig down to a minimum. The centre of gravity is kept low by reducing the distance between the camera body and where it sits on your shoulder down to just 1/2″. This minimises camera wobble.
