Since we first saw the pre-production Zoom F8 10-track audio recorder at NAB earlier this year it has been receiving quite a lot of attention from sound recordists and self shooters. The first stocks have recently started shipping to dealers and New York audio specialists Gotham Sound have just posted a new through of the production model’s key features:

It is a fully featured audio recorder that importantly has the ability to accept and generate timecode via BNC connectors. Most functions can be controlled via a remote app on your bluetooth connected iOS device. Recording is to dual SD card slots. Power can be from an internal AA battery pack, a hirose connection or dc barrel power connector. There are eight XLR combination jack inputs, and dual TA3 connectors plus a minijack for main outputs.

The recorder weighs a mere 2.6 lbs and the dimensions are 7” x 5.5” x 2.1”. The compact dimensions make it a good candidate for mounting onto your rig, or being worn in a small pouch.

The best part about the Zoom F8 is the low price of $999 US. In the US it can be bought from Gotham Sound and other authorised Zoom dealers. In the UK it is available from our friends at Pinknoise Systems for £665 + VAT.
