NAB 2015: Need a mattebox without the weight? Bright Tangerine’s lightweight Misfit ATOM mattebox could be the perfect solution

By site editor Dan Chung:

At NAB we got hands on with the finished version of Bright Tangerine’s new Misfit ATOM mattebox. It is a super-lightweight design that consists of a filter holder and a detachable rubber hood. It weighs a mere 98g without the shade, and 195g with it. This makes it a near-perfect solution for adding filters to a Steadicam or gimbal rig when weight is a consideration.

Unlike other lightweight sunhood designs on the market the Atom can take two of the larger 4 x 5.65” sized filters, or 4×4” sized ones. One very nice feature is a clever bracket that allows the filters to be tilted slightly to prevent unwanted filter reflections.

The mattebox clamps onto your lens or alternatively an additional adapter can be purchased to allow more rigid mounting to 15 or 19mm rods. The maximum diameter is 114mm (the size of Zeiss CP2 cine lenses) and smaller diameter lenses can be attached using donut adapter rings.

In the video above we also look at the Revolvr and Revolvr ATOM follow focus units.

The Misfit ATOM is available to order now from the Bright Tangerine website.
