I’ve known Dan Chung, Matt Allard and Clinton Harn for years. We all live in the mutual admiration club (or at least I do), and we’ve discussed creating content together for, well, a long time.

Well, that time has finally come!

This is my 14th year teaching at NAB’s Post|Production World. It’s an annual conference that is produced by Future Media Concepts (FMC), and NAB. It’s a five day educational ‘marathon’ that runs from Saturday through Wednesday, morning to night, and includes instruction in all aspects of production and post. It’s some of the highest level training out there and I’m honoured to be a part of it every year.

Each October I have to submit my ideas for the coming year’s NAB and what sessions I want to teach. While there are always the old standbys, I love to create new workshops that are relevant to production today and that help people learn the craft of video production and filmmaking. That’s what theC47 is all about.

This time around I thought it would be great to talk to the Newsshooter team about co-producing a one day workshop focused on Cinematic Lighting. I also wanted to co-teach the workshop and my friend and very talented cinematographer, Clinton Harn, seemed like the perfect choice.

So…

Wednesday, April 15th (tax day here in the U.S.), in partnership with NAB and FMC, Jem Schofield of theC47, News|Shooter and Australian based Cinematographer Clinton Harn will produce the “Cinematic Lighting Workshop” as part of Post|Production World 2015.

This all day, two part workshop featuring Jem Schofield, Clinton Harn and friends will take attendees through the process of planning and lighting for narrative, corporate and documentary style projects using largely low-key cinematic lighting techniques. This masterclass will feature lighting, lighting control, composition, “sets”, actors and camera set-ups to teach you how to light for a wide range of projects. Aimed at both factual and narrative filmmakers alike.

The workshop will be delivered in a conversational, real world style that will allow the presenters to work effectively with their crew (some who will be attendees), while still teaching their process and approach. Much like being on an actual working set! It’s a no BS workshop and there will be lots to learn.

The workshop will run from 9:00am to 4:45pm on Wednesday, April 15th in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (right by the Central Hall where most of us geeks that are attending NAB will be hanging out!).

In addition to the all day workshop, core segments of the workshop will be filmed by the News|Shooter team and will be made available on newsshooter.com, theC47.com and various other sponsor based web sites after the show.
