Petrol made some of my favorite video camera and audio mixer bags. Their Dr. bag range in particular was very popular and I used one for my C100 kit a lot. So when I heard on the grapevine that owners Vitec were going to end the Petrol brand I was a little sad.
Thankfully, it turns out that Vitec actually merged it into the Sachtler brand. At BVE in London I spoke to Tobias Keuthen and he explained that most of the Petrol designs are now available as Sachtler bags – with some improvements.
He told me that the new Sachtler cases have the ‘DNA’ of Petrol but with the popular black and red colour scheme and better YKK zippers. Tobias also said that development of the bags will continue and new products are planned. This is certainly welcome news and I look forward to seeing more new models resulting from the merger.
