IBC 2014 video: Sony’s new audio jackpack connects directly to the a7S

By technical editor Matt Allard:

In this short video Sony’s Bill Drummond shows the new, as yet unnamed sibling to the XLR-K1M audio adapter. The new version of the adapter mounted direct to the camera and includes the ability to both draw power and route audio signals through the Sony MI shoe connector found on the a7S and RX10. Previously with the XLR-K1M it was necessary to use both the camera’s hotshoe and another cold shoe mount to attach the breakout box.

This new device will streamline connections, especially on smaller cameras like the a7S.

Incidentally we are using the current XLR-K1M with the a7S for many of our show reports from IBC. Other cameras in use by the team include the Panasonic GH4 and the Canon C300.
