Edelkrone aims to simplify time-lapse moves with the Craft module

By technical editor Matt Allard:

Edelkrone have released what looks to be a very interesting addition to its product line just weeks before NAB 2014 in Las Vegas. The Craft Module is designed to be attached to any of the company’s range of Slider Plus Pro or SliderPlus V2 sliders. Edelkrone is touting it as a simple-to-use alternative to some of the more complex time-lapse systems out there in the market. The Craft module lets you choose between photo and video time-lapse modes, then asks you a few simple questions. You don’t need to do complex time-lapse calculations; you set the start-point, end-point, operation duration, desired movie frame rate per second and the final movie duration by answering the questions. Craft Module will even calculate and let you know the maximum allowed shutter speed. Without setting the end- or start-points, you can also set automated static time-lapses in seconds. You can also use the timer function to schedule a time-lapse for later.

The Craft Module can work at extremely slow micro speeds for close-up slider shots. You can precisely adjust the speed through the interface and smoothly slide through the shot. Macro slider shots have been notoriously difficult to achieve, so this new feature looks like it could help add originality to your projects.

Stop-motion along with camera movement is also possible with the Craft Module. An easy Q&A interface saves you from worrying about a lot of the details. As you have total control over camera positioning, you don’t have to worry about making mistakes, and you can always revert back to any position or frame for corrections.

The Craft Module can also work in conjunction with the Target module to give you object tracking at the same time. It is powered using a variety of battery plates that can take a wide variety of common batteries, or via mains power.

I can see it being very popular with event, documentary and news shooters. The Slider Plus is already a very clever design that is perfect to put into a back pack or take on assignments; the added versatility that the Craft Module can provide will come in very handy in a lot of situations.

Edelkrone again looks to have made a very clever and innovative product that I’m sure will prove popular. Low weight, ease of use and versatility are the features many of us look for these days. The Craft Module can be ordered on the Edelkrone website for $699.99 US.
