Film Lighting Australia has come up with a range of free tools that can be used by DPs and gaffers.
The tools include a Sun path, Shoot-day weather with frame wind warnings, and a Photometrics calculator. The tools are useful for recces, and they work on phones, laptops, or tablets.
Yes, some of these things are pretty basic and already easily accessible, but you can’t really complain about anything that is free. Film Lighting Australia’s goal is obviously to bring more awareness to their company, and they are doing that by providing some free tools.
Sun path
Sun path can show you sunrise, sunset, golden and blue hour, and the sun’s direction and height through the day on a map.
Shoot-day weather
Shoot-day weather provides hourly wind and gusts with plain-English frame warnings, plus rain, cloud, temperature, and UV, up to 14 days out.
Photometrics
Photometrics provides lux, foot-candles, and T-stop for Film Lighting Australia’s inventory of lights at any distance, through diffusion.
Lighting plot
Lighting plot shows a top-down plan with beams, camera view, talent marks, and the sun. You can set exposure at each mark, download the PDF, share the link, and go straight to an estimate.
