What It Is

Ecco 1

The EXOCAGE is built around what Metamorphosis calls the EXOSYSTEM. Each cage is made of three parts: a camera-specific FRONT MODULE, a camera-specific MID MODULE, and the EXOCORE, which mounts on the rear of the cage and houses the electronics.

The idea is that the EXOCORE carries over between cameras. If you move to another supported body, you buy new front and mid modules and keep the power and signal hub. Most cages are tied to a single camera and get replaced when the camera does. This approach only replaces the parts that touch the camera.

The cage surrounds the body rather than just framing it, and includes an analog record button wired to the camera. The Panasonic versions also add Custom 1 and Custom 2 analog buttons.

EXOCORE

Ecco 2

EXOCORE is the power and connectivity module. It integrates a ZGCINE VM-VP1 V-Mount plate, a ZGCINE MD-P4 D-Tap splitter, and an optional Blackmagic Design Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 3G, powered over USB-C. Two BNC female-to-female adapters bring the SDI signal out through the module.

EXOCORE is also sold on its own. Through a 15mm rod clamp, it can mount to any rig with 15mm rod support, regardless of camera. Buyers can later convert it into a full EXOCAGE with an EXOCORE to EXOCAGE Upgrade Kit.

Front Module Variants

The full-size EXOCAGE and the EXOCAGE mini are offered with two front module options:

  • Standard: Fits most PL-to-E or PL-to-L mount adapters. On the Sony version, it also fits the Tilta Autofocus Adapter.
  • Mofage Poco Compatible: Clears bulkier PL adapters with autofocus and built-in ND filters, such as the Mofage Poco I and II. Available now for Panasonic. Listed as coming soon for Sony.

EXOCAGE mini

The EXOCAGE mini uses the same front module as the flagship cages but drops the EXOCORE electronics. It ships with a choice of V-Mount or Sony NP-F battery adapter, the analog record and custom buttons, two cheese plates, and two NATO rails. At €199, it is the entry point to the system. An EXOCAGE mini to EXOCAGE Upgrade Kit converts it to the full version. Metamorphosis has not published pricing for either upgrade kit.
