Ancient Optics has announced its new STATERA Anamorphic 90-180mm T3.2, 1.5x squeeze, full-frame zoom that features a true front-anamorphic design.
Ancient Optics’ new challenge is to build anamorphic zooms that bring the beauty, performance, and character of the STATERA Anamorphic Primes to a family of zooms. Like the primes, the zooms are said to be balanced, sharp, yet flattering.
The lens is an amalgamation of vintage spherical lenses and new, modern anamorphic optics. It uses a traditional variable front diopter focus system.
These lSTATERA series are inspired by the most legendary anamorphic lenses from the 1970s and 1980s – Todd AO, Cineovision, Technovision, and Nippon Scope.
The zoom has vintage-inspired flares; however, it can still handle backlight and high-contrast shots. The 90-180mm T3.2 extends the range and reach of STATERA, and you can utilize it to do slow, creeping zoom, a snap zoom, or use it as a variable prime.
The lens is available in PL mount, and it weighs in at 17.92 Ibs / 8.12 kg. It has a minimum focusing distance of 3′ / 91cm and a 143mm front diameter.
