Digital Anarchy Flicker Free Questions Answered

In the first “Ask Digital Anarchy” video, the company focuses on one of its most popular plugins, Flicker Free. They attempt to answer some of the most common questions they get from users.

If you are not familiar with Flicker Free, the plug-in resolves common video flickering issues, such as those caused by LEDs, timelapses, or slow motion. It is available for DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, AE, Avid Media Composer, and Final Cut.

If you notice ghosting after applying the effect, adjust the Detect Motion, Motion Compensation, and Time Radius settings. Lowering the Time Radius can help reduce ghosting, while Motion Compensation is best for clips with high activity (like sports).

Digital Anarchy suggests that you always apply Flicker Free as the top layer in your effects stack. If you have other effects, disable them while adjusting your Flicker Free settings to prevent rendering errors or memory issues.

If you are still getting flicker after applying settings, Digital Anarchy recommends a specific testing process:

  1. Pick a clip section with minimal motion.
  2. Set Time Radius to 19 and Time Step to 1.
  3. Turn off Detect Motion and Motion Compensation for the initial test.
  4. If flicker persists, increment the Time Step (to 3, then 5).

If this doesn’t work and you are still having issues, you can contact the Digital Anarchy support team at [email protected] for help with settings.
