Teradek has announced RF-X, an automatic switch that seamlessly outputs the strongest Ranger wireless video signal, which was designed specifically for mission-critical broadcasts, such as live sports, concerts, motorsports, and cine applications. RF-X is compatible with all models of Bolt 4K, Bolt 6, and Ranger Series.
On shoots where every second counts, the Technical Director or Video Engineer is under immense pressure to maintain flawless wireless video feeds under tight budget constraints. Instead of having to rely on manual switching or expensive, complex failover solutions, Teradek wanted to come up with a better solution.

RF-X monitors signal quality in real time and automatically switches to the strongest Receiver as RF conditions change to deliver a clean, uninterrupted 12G-SDI HDR output, eliminating manual switching and reducing operator workload on demanding productions. As cameras, talent, and obstacles move, RF-X automatically locks onto the strongest signal to keep your feed clean and uninterrupted.
RF-X is designed to be fully plug-and-play. Users can simply connect their redundant receivers to the SDI inputs and their monitor to the SDI output. RF-X automatically selects and switches to the best available video signal. The web interface, accessed via Ethernet, is optional and can be used for RF-X firmware updates or to monitor video quality across each connected receiver.
Two or more RF-X units can be linked over single-mode fiber using the RF-X’s SFP port.
Because fiber is immune to RF noise, ground loops, and other electrical interference, it provides an additional, highly reliable signal path, further protecting your video feed from signal loss or degradation. This fiber connection can extend video to off-set DIT carts, Video Village, additional video switchers, or ancillary routing systems, even across long distances.
