ARRI has released Software Update Package SUP 5.1.0, which adds further functionality for the ALEXA 35, ALEXA 35 Xtreme, and ALEXA 35 Live and takes the efficient new ARRICORE codec out of beta.
With DaVinci Resolve and other major tools announcing their full support, ARRICORE can be considered ready for immediate use on professional productions.
In headline news for the broadcast world, SUP 5.1.0 also brings additional features for the ALEXA 35 Live, which, together with the new SUP 1.2.0 for LPS-1, significantly enhances the ALEXA 35 Live – Multicam System. And all this hot on the heels of the recently announced Live Production Monitor LPM-1.
Software Update Package SUP 5.1.0 can be installed on any of the ALEXA 35 family of cameras (ALEXA 35 Xtreme, ALEXA 35, and ALEXA 35 Live).
With this update, the beta test phase for ARRICORE has ended and ARRI’s new flagship codec is production-ready. ARRICORE is an efficient, high-end codec introduced with (and only available on) the ALEXA 35 Xtreme. With ARRICORE, exceptionally high image quality is captured and flexibility in post is maintained since sensitivity, white balance, and tint are not baked in. At the same time, the codec offers a low data rate, thereby saving productions money with fewer Compact Drives needed, recording times doubled, and download speeds increased.
While most of the ALEXA 35 Xtreme’s advanced capabilities are based on its powerful new hardware, some of the software-based features are now also available for ALEXA 35 and ALEXA 35 Live, including the improved WiFi performance, new user buttons, and consolidated Multicam menu. Please note that ALEXA 35 Xtreme has streamlined recording format options, but ALEXA 35 and ALEXA 35 Live will retain their existing recording formats.
ALEXA 35 SUP 5.1.0 also provides new features and bug fixes for all three cameras, including greatly improved defect pixel correction, a new user intercom call button, and additional WiFi host channels in some regions.

More support for ALEXA 35 Xtreme

A number of third-party software tools have incorporated support for ARRICORE, including the latest versions of DaVinci Resolve, Assimilate Scratch, Colorfront OSD, FilmLight Baselight, Imagine Products Shotput Pro, and Pomfort Silverstack—with more in the works. Our online list linked below provides up-to-date info on which software can already process ARRICORE. Meanwhile, the ARRI Camera Companion App and ARRI Reference Tool, as well as the online Frame Line & Lens Illumination Tool and Formats & Data Rate Calculator, are also now fully compatible with ALEXA 35 Xtreme.
The latest version of CODEX Device Manager can handle ARRIRAW files of all sensor modes from ALEXA 35 Xtreme, ALEXA 35, and ALEXA 35 Live cameras. In addition, it can apply HDE to ARRIRAW files from all ARRI ALEXA cameras, which means that owners of legacy cameras like the ALEXA Mini no longer need a license to offload ARRIRAW as HDE when using a non-CODEX CFast reader.
ARRIRAW HDE Transcoder 1.6.3 provides an alternative for creating MXF/HDE files from MXF/ARRIRAW camera originals when CODEX Device Manager cannot be used—for example, if the ARRIRAW files are no longer on the original recording media. Licensed and supplied by CODEX, the encoder used by the HDE Transcoder software guarantees identical results. With this update, full metadata support has been added for the ALEXA 35 Xtreme and ALEXA 265.
