At NAB 2024, SmallRig Wass showing their new SmallRig x Potato Jet Tribex Hydraulic Carbon Fiber Tripod. This is being touted as a faster, more portable professional tripod.
It features the patented X-clutch hydraulic single-action setup technology along with a self-locking system of carbon fiber legs. You simply squeeze the clutch, find the favorite height and position, release the clutch, and the hydraulic system automatically lock itself.
This actually works pretty well and I only think it is possible because of the lightweight nature of the tripod.
The kit features a compact fluid head with up to 5kg of counterbalance for dynamic balance, suitable for small and medium-sized cameras. Stepless damping is claimed to enable smooth tilting and panning.
The tripod weighs 3.4kg, and it has a maximum height of 168cm with a center column raised and locked via a flip lock.
