Canon has posted up a video called Canon Sundance 2026 Tech Talk– Exploring the EOS C50 where cinematographer Brandon Hoeg discusses his experience as one of the first users of the camera on a film (GRIND). The discussion also features Canon Senior Technical Specialist Ryan Snyder.
Ryan Snyder talks about the C50’s capabilities including the RF mount, the full-frame sensor that is capable of 7K 60p internal 12-bit RAW recording and compressed 4K formats up to 120p, and 180p in 2K. He also discusses the autofocus, open gate recording, dynamic range, and compact size.
Brandon Hoeg, the cinematographer for GRIND, discusses the film, which is about an e-bike delivery driver. He explains the use of multiple cameras, including the C50 as the C and D camera and the challenging and dynamic nature of filming across New York City.
