Old Fast Glass has conducted a lens test using the Ancient Optics STATERA 50mm T2.2, 75mm T2.2, and 100mm T2.2 anamorphic lenses with the ARRI ALEXA 265.

The 50mm T2.2, 75mm T2.2, and 100mm T2.2 are arguably the focal lengths that perform best with the 65mm format sensor of the 265. The test was shot Open Gate and cropped to a final 2.40:1 aspect ratio. These lenses were originally designed with Full Frame, Large Format, Vista Vision sensors in mind. However, these 3 focal lengths happened to work well with the 265.
Because of the larger sensor of the ALEXA 265, you are seeing to the very edges of what the lenses can project onto the sensor. This results in a bit more falloff, and more swirl and a cat’s eye effect to the bokeh, especially when the iris is wide open.
The goal of this test is to show performance and character at multi-T stops, close focus performance, distortion, bokeh character, focus breathing, and lens flares. A Rec 709 LUT was applied. The STATERA Anamorphics have a character inspired by vintage anamorphic lenses. They also feature new optical designs, in new modern housings, with reliable mechanics, and impressive close focus. The STATERA anamorphic lenses are one of the few sets that work with ALEXA 265.
