Blazar is unveiling its new TALON 1.5X AF anamorphic lenses. We have already seen quite a few 1.33x AF anamorphic lenses hit the market from Blazar and SIRUI, but to my knowledge, the TALON series will be the first 1.5x anamorphic lenses that feature AF capabilities.
The TALON series will originally consist of 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm focal lengths. The 35mm is listed as T2.1, but there are no T stops listed for the 50mm or 75mm. The lenses cover an image circle of 36 x 24mm.
Blazar states that the TALON series is ultra-compact and can deliver fast, precise autofocus. The lenses weigh between 664g / 23.42 oz and 689g / 24.30 oz each. They all feature an 80mm front diameter, and they can take 77mm screw-in filters.
Even though they have a 1.5x squeeze, Blazar claims that they more closely resemble resemle the look of a 1.8x anamorphic.
There is an AF/MF switch, but there are no pitch gears on the focus barrel
The TALON series will only initially be available in Sony E-mount. Some readers may find it a little strange as to why Blazar would make 1.5x anamorphic lenses for Sony cameras that don’t support open gate recording and not offer an L mount.
Pricing & Availability
Pre-orders for the TALON series open on the 3rd of February at 4:00 AM PDT, and the pre-order price will be $999 USD per lens. They are expected to also start shipping in early February.
The retail price after the pre-order ends will be $1,099 USD. As an added bonus, previous Blazar official store “Lens Buyers” get an extra $100 USD OFF.
