Avatar: Fire and Ash–Behind the Craft delves into the intricate creative process behind bringing new elements of Pandora to life, by focusing on the Wind Traders and the Ash People.
The video explores the concept and design behind the Wind Traders as well as their culture, architecture, costumes, and lifestyle. It also goes into how Simon Franglen created a majestic and exciting music theme for the Wind Traders, reflecting the enormous scale of their flying ships.
The focus then shifts to the Ash People, where they introduce Varang (played by Oona Chaplin) and how that character is portrayed.
James Cameron then goes into quite a bit of detail about the creative execution of the CG artists who brought it all to life.
Production designers Ben Procter and Dylan Cole show you the hundreds of sets that were practically built to bring the new parts of Pandora to life.
James Cameron and Stephen Rivkin take you behind their complex editing process from performance capture through the final composition.
Above, you can listen to Simon Franglen about how he composed Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Additionally, you can also see a video above published by New Zealand-based Wētā Workshop, where you can discover the threads woven into the rich fabric of Pandora for Director James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Led by Academy Award-winning Costume Designer Deborah Scott, every costume piece was made as a physical, real-world item in our workshop for this world unlike any other.
