Fujifilm has announced its instax mini Evo Cinema camera. It features a vertical-holding style reminiscent of the company’s 1965 8mm film camera, the Fujica P300 Single-8.
The mini Evo Cinema can not only capture traditional still images but also video for up to 15 seconds as well. Videos can be recorded in resolutions of 1080 x 1440 or 600 x 800 at 24fps to the built-in memory or a microSDXC memory card. Yes, 15 seconds is a very short amount of time, but it could be useful for certain projects.
The camera uses a 5MP 1/5-inch CMOS sensor and a fixed 28mm (35mm equivalent) F2 lens. There is Single AF and Face Detection AF.
You can convert captured video data into a QR code and create an instax print together with a still image cut out from the video, allowing users to share a video. By turning videos into instax prints, users can not only preserve memorable moments spent with loved ones in tangible form, but also easily revisit the video anytime via the QR code. Video data remains downloadable for two years after being uploaded.

Recorded videos can be viewed on the rear monitor.
There are 10 Eras-Dial effects, each evoking the aesthetic of a different era from the 1930s to the 2020s. For example, the 1960s effect mimics the look of an 8mm film camera, while the 1970s effect captures the texture of a color CRT television. These effects also incorporate subtle details like noise and tape wobble. Each effect can be adjusted across 10 levels, enabling a total of 100 distinct expressions (10×10).
The Eras-Dial effects also apply to recorded audio. Some effects even incorporate the sound of film spinning inside the camera as an effect, resulting in videos with a unique audio quality.
The camera’s design and handling have been crafted to evoke an old-school 8mm film camera. The Z-Dial features a satisfying click, while the Print Lever allows manual operation reminiscent of winding film.
The camera includes a viewfinder attachment for the rear monitor.
