The Testament Of Anne Lee was shot on Kodak film and written and directed by Mona Fastvold (The World to Come, The Brutalist). The movie is about the true legend of Ann Lee, founder of the devotional sect known as the Shakers. Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried stars as the Shaker’s leader, who preached gender and social equality and was revered by her followers.
According to the production, the easiest way to transport an audience for a film that takes place in 1738 was to shoot on film. The movie was shot on three perf 35mm in a 2.4:1 aspect ratio, and as they wanted to record a lot of the singing live, they needed to use quiet cameras.
