Universal has released the first official Trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated movie, The Odyssey.
The Odyssey was filmed using brand-new IMAX film technology, and it brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time.

IMAX recently announced that its new film camera will be named The IMAX Keighley Film Camera, honoring those who were instrumental in its creation. The IMAX Keighley cameras were first used on The Odyssey. These new cameras are 30% quieter than previous IMAX cameras, and they offer other improvements include a carbon-fiber body for lighter operation and an LCD viewfinder.

In a post on social media, Geoff Keighley said, “There’s been a lot of well-deserved attention on my dad and his legacy this year, but my mom has been just as vital to IMAX since the very beginning – and she’s still hard at work there every day. As my dad always said, she was 50% of everything he ever accomplished. I know nothing would make him happier than seeing her contributions recognized as well. At a time when many are questioning the future of moviegoing, I’m proud to see IMAX doubling down on the power of the theatrical experience. There are so many ways to consume content today, and the bar for theaters has never been higher – but when it works, there’s truly nothing like it.”
David Keighley, a longtime steward of IMAX’s unmatched image and sound quality, who for 15 years served as IMAX’s first-ever Chief Quality Officer, passed away at the age of 77 earlier this year.
David oversaw post-production for more than 500 IMAX films and was a trusted partner to some of the world’s most lauded filmmakers, including Christopher Nolan.
Keighley embodied the principle that presentation matters as much as content. He was intensely driven to ensure every audience could experience films with the highest possible fidelity, and his meticulous attention to detail often saw him flying to IMAX screenings around the world to personally check on projection quality.

The Odyssey will open in theatres on July 17, 2026, and it stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o, with Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

In select IMAX theatres around the world, you will be able to watch The Odyssey on a 1570 Film projector. 1570 refers to the dimensions of the film frame, which is 15 perforations (the small holes that run along the edge of each frame and allow the film to be pulled through the projector) in length by 70mm in height.
This is not to be confused with standard 70mm film, which has just 5 perforations per frame, less than a third the size of a 1570 film frame.
