The Light Widow Horizon Monitor Mount Kit gives you freedom to place your monitor in a number of positions above and to the side of the camera. It was designed to be compact, quick to adjust (it can easily be adjusted and locked with one hand), and it has the added benefit of always keeping the monitor level.
This looks to be a really good solution for mounting a monitor, and it is good to see companies coming up with unique solutions.
The kit consists of three elements:
The Horizon Arm
The horizon arm is designed to be attached to the front of a camera’s top handle. The arm rotates between 16 different quick-locking positions, and at the same time, always keeps the monitor orientation consistent. This means that if you have your monitor level and move the horizon arm to a new position, your monitor will remain level. The arm can also be attached in a number of other locations or orientations, and can even be combined with a second arm using the included L-Bracket for combined side-to-side and front-to-back movement. A quick-release thumb lever locks/unlocks the arm’s position. The horizon arm attaches to a top handle’s female ⅜ ARRI pin interface on one end, and contains both a female ⅜ ARRI pin interface and a custom Light Widow interface to receive a monitor mount on the other end.
The 3-Axis Monitor Mount
The 3-Axis monitor mount can attach to either side of the horizon arm’s interface. The 3-axis mount is a first-of-its-kind monitor mount that allows for pan, tilt, and roll without having to loosen or tighten any knobs. This means that, unlike other pan/twist or pan/tilt mounts on the market, the monitor can face to the side of the camera and can still tilt up or down without having to be rotated to an awkward angle. Another feature that separates the 3-Axis mount is that the rotation of the mount does not become loose over time – once the resistance is set, every axis will maintain that resistance until adjusted.
The L-Bracket
The included L-Bracket is a simple 90 degree male to female adapter that can be used for attaching the Horizon arm to the top of a top handle (especially useful for when the front of the top handle is already in use by something like a rangefinder), or can be used for attaching the 3-Axis monitor mount to the Horizon arm in different configurations that work best for various shooting styles. It can also be used to adapt the 3-Axis monitor mount directly to a top handle, etc.
