Metabones’ latest firmware update is claimed to improve video autofocus by expanding the PDAF area. This is actually a pretty big deal if you happen to own one of the compatible Metabones Speed Boosters or CINE eND Smart Adapter.

In video mode, the entire frame now supports phase-detection autofocus, whereas previously only a small central area had phase-detection, but the periphery used contrast-detection. If your Metabones EF to E has a switch on the side, you can go to metabones.com and download the latest version.

The firmware covers the Mark V, Speed Booster ULTRA II, CINE Speed Booster, and CINE Smart Adapter. Metabones latest CINE eND Smart Adapter can also be upgraded, and so can the Contax N and Contax 645 products. When you run the Metabones App, check the checkbox to enable continuous video AF.
The LED of your Speed Booster or Smart Adapter will turn red to indicate that continuous video AF is enabled, or in the case of eND, the OLED display shows “ADV”.
Mark V, ULTRA II, CINE, and Contax products for Sony E-mount cameras can be upgraded by downloading the Metabones App from metabones.com. Make sure you check the Enable continuous video AF checkbox to enable it.
