Chuck Fadely talks to Isao Matsufune of Sony about their new XDCAM PXW-X180 camera introduced at NAB 2014. The EX-1 sized handycam has a 25X zoom G series lens with a 26mm equivalent at the wide end. It’s a three-chip 1/3in CMOS camera which records MPEG HD422 at 50 Mbps, as well as XAVC, AVCHD, and DV on SxS cards in dual slots. It has a third card slot which records proxy files to SD cards, which can be sent over wifi from the camera. You can also remotely control the camera from a smartphone app. It has a continuously variable ND filter as well.
