Question Which laptop to buy for gaming and photography? Here are my options. Urgent!

Recommended Posts

I have finally decided to upgrade my laptop So, here I am with few options. My basic needs are gaming and fairly consistent use of photoshop and lightroom for my photography. I would like a laptop to be not too heavy in weight (around 2.2 kg max)

MSI GF65 Thin 15.6” Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, RTX 2060, 256 GB SSD
ACER Nitro 5 AN517 17.3" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, RTX 2060, 256 GB SSD
ASUS TUF Gaming A15 15.6" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7, GTX 1660 Ti, 512 GB SSD
MSI GF75 Thin 17.3” Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, GTX 1660 Ti, 512 GB SSD

Which one would you go for, for gaming and photography needs?

Thank you very much for your help.

I have a 17" MSI gaming laptop (now a bit out of date) that I bought specifically to allow me to edit in Resolve. The MSI is the only one that I could find at a reasonable price and to which I could add extra RAM (now 32GB) and change both SSDs (larger and faster now).

But for photo editing you don't really need a powerful machine, so any of those would do. For gaming I can't assist, as I'm not a gamer.

    • That sounds a little trick. I am not sure of the particulars of your question but my picks are  AViPAS AV-3104IP 4D VISCA Over IP Joystick PTZ Controller with PoE uses LAN  cable, also not too expensive VariZoom VZ-Stealth-LX  but I think I found a similar question answered on another platform. BGH1 - Focus control through LANC? . I hope this helps if doesn't, then just take it as me being totally out of my depth.

    • Several years ago, a friend in Boston told me he actually did most of his editing in iMovie but opened up FCP for clients to see when they came to his home office. 🤣
    • I've been thinking about getting Filmic Pro myself, but probably need to get some sort of tripod adapter for my tablet and/or phone first to make it worthwhile. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of features supported by my low-end Motorola phone and keep forgetting to run the test app on my Samsung tablet.
