Adobe officially withdraws from NAB 2020 due to COVID-19

More companies are pulling out of NAB 2020 and Adobe is the biggest one so far. It’s hard to believe the show will go on especially if more are following.

Each year, we look forward to seeing our video community at NAB to talk about the latest trends and our product innovations. Over the past few weeks, we have been closely monitoring and evaluating the situation around COVID-19 and have made the difficult but important decision to cancel our presence at the show this year.

While we are disappointed, the health and safety of our employees, customers and partners are always our priority. We look forward to engaging with our NAB community through a digital experience in the near future.

Even if NAB isn’t formally cancelled, it seems unavoidable that it will be just a fraction of the normal experience. And for those that do attend the show, the experience will almost certainly have to be a “get in, get it done, get out” arrangement without the social aspect that so many of us look forward to each year.

On top of the obvious booth space, booth design and construction, staff travel and accommodation, there’s all the asset preparations, workshop and activity coordination, on-booth educators, after-hours events and more that will have been coordinated and likely be cancelled even if the show continues. For every Canon and Adobe that this doesn’t make a dent in, there’s a small business that will really feel the impact and this is just one show in our fairly niche industry. Regardless of the actual health impact of this virus it seems like we’re only beginning to see the tip of the iceberg in the economic impact.
