GoPro Hero8 coming on the 1st October

GoPro will announce a new Hero8 action camera and the GoPro Max, a 360° camera to replace the current GoPro Fusion.

There isn’t much information to go on other than the tease video. GoPro really needs to hit the ball out of the park with the Hero8. The action camera market is hotly contested and DJI’s announcement of the Osmo Action earlier in the year probably hasn’t helped.

Hopefully, the Hero8 has better stabilization, a host of new features, and be priced competitively. I’m slightly worried that GoPro won’t update the sensor or frame rates that are currently available in the Hero7.

The Hero8 also looks to be using some type of hinged accessory mount.

What looks to be a shot of the new GoPro Max

The GoPro Max will be the follow up to the Fusion which was announced 2 years ago. GoPro first mentioned the Fusion replacement at the companies Q1 2019 earnings call. GoPro Max will have big shoes to fill. The Fusion offered very good image quality and stabilization for an affordably priced 360 camera.

Looking at the teaser video, the Max appears to have a preview/playback screen. Could this possibly imply that some sort of real-time stitching is being done, or is it simply just a preview stitch? Who knows.

Again, GoPro needs this camera to be good as it has to battle several 360 camera options from Insta360 that are already available.

GoPro will be conducting a live stream of the announcement over on YouTube. Here is the link if you want to tune in on October 1st.
