Vazen 40mm 1.8x Anamorphic & Z Cam E2 short film

We first came across the Vazen 40mm 1.8x Anamorphic for M43 cameras at Cinegear and now DOP Michael Della Polla has released a short film shot on the Z Cam E2 with the lens.

Along with using the Z Cam E2, Michael was using a DJI Ronin 2, a Portkeys BM5 monitor, the Accsoon CINE EYE wireless system, a Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom Pola+ Matte Box, and a PD Movie wireless follow focus system.

Most of the footage was captured at T2.8. Overall Michael and the crew were very impressed with the Vazen lenses.

Vazen Anamorphics

The 1.8x squeeze of the Vazen anamorphic produces a 2.39:1 aspect ratio when used with 4:3 M43 sensors like the Panasonic GH5 and Z-cam E2. The lens features a T2 aperture and a MOD is 2.7′.

KEY FEATURES

  • Focal Length: 40mm
  • Min. Focus: 2.7’ (0.82m)
  • T-stop range: T/2 – T/16
  • Front Diameter: 110mm
  • Weight: 3.97 lbs (1.8kg)
  • Dimensions: 4.33” x 6.89” (110 x 175mm)

The lens has a front anamorphic design, and Vazen claims that the lens has buttery smooth oval bokeh, signature blue horizontal flare and gives users that widescreen cinematic look.

The VZ anamorphic prime is quite large and heavy for a Micro Four Thirds lens, it tips the scales at 1.8kg.

The lens has a 110mm front diameter for use with a standard matte box and the aperture and focus rings are built with 0.8 mod cine gears. The focus throw is 300°.

Other focal lengths of the VZ primes are in the works. It’s expected that the 28mm and 65mm VZ 1.8x anamorphic primes will be launched later in the year.
