Laowa has announced the 15mm F/2.0 Zero-D for Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts, as well as the 10-18mm F/4.5-5.6 in Nikon Z mount. Both these lenses have previously been available in Sony E mount.

Both these lenses are manual focus only and cover full-frame sensors.

The Laowa 15mm f/2 FE Zero-D Lens from Venus Optics is a rectilinear lens with is said to feature a sophisticated optical design that effectively limits distortion.

Key features

  • Ultra wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras
  • Relatively fast f/2 maximum aperture benefits astrophotography and low-light shooting applications.
  • Rectilinear design renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit landscape and architectural applications.
  • Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality. Two aspherical elements are also featured to limit spherical aberrations for improved sharpness.
  • A Frog Eye Coating has been applied to repel both dust and moisture for added protection when working in inclement conditions.
  • Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 5.9″ away with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.
  • The manual aperture ring can be mechanically ‘de-clicked’ for smooth, silent rotation throughout the aperture range; making it ideal for video applications.
  • Five straight diaphragm blades are used to render crisp 10-point sun-stars when photographing point light sources with smaller aperture sizes.
  • Despite its ultra-wide design, this lens can accept 72mm screw-in filters on the front of the lens.

The f/2 maximum aperture makes this lens especially useful for astrophotography and low-light use, and when paired with the 5.9″ minimum focusing distance, shallow depth of field imagery can also be produced.

The optical construction includes three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to control both chromatic and spherical aberrations to produce what Laowa claims is greater sharpness, clarity, and reduced color fringing. A Frog Eye Coating has been applied to repel dust and moisture from the front element of the lens.

The manual aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture for video shooting, and the front of the lens is threaded to accept 72mm screw-in filters.

Both the Nikon Z mount and Canon RF mount versions of the lens cost $849 USD. The lens is also available in Sony E-mount.

The Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 FE Zoom is a small and compact ultra-wide-angle zoom.

Key features

  • Ultra-wide-angle zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras.
  • Especially sleek design measures just 2.75 x 3.6″ and weighs approximately 1 lb.
  • One extra-low dispersion element reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality.
  • Accepts 37mm filters via a rear filter mount and is also compatible with the optional\
  • Laowa Magnetic 100mm Filter Holder.Z-Mount Lens/FX Format
  • Aperture Range: f/4.5 to f/22
  • One Extra-Low Dispersion Element
  • Two Aspherical Elements

Its optical design incorporates both extra-low dispersion and aspherical elements in order to correct a variety of aberrations and distortions for sharper, clearer image quality and accurate color rendering.

A Frog Eye Coating has also been applied to repel dust and moisture from the front element of the lens to benefit working in trying environmental conditions.

The manual aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture changes to suit video applications, and the rear of the lens is threaded to accept 37mm screw-in filters.

The 10-18mm F/4.5-5.6 is available in Nikon Z mount and Sony E mount for $849 USD.
